Find barriers in an area, model barrier removal, or generate an area profile report.

Searching for Barriers

To find out more information specific fish passage barriers, start with a search.

  • If you know part of the name of a specific barrier, you can search for the barrier with that name.
  • If you want to find all barriers in a specific area, choose the "search by Area" tab to select the area type and details. The results you may find will show those barriers on a map, list them individually, and show which known species are in the area.

Area Profile

  • To generate a summaraized report about an area, choose the "Area Profile" tab. This will show an image of the area as well as statistical charts and species information.

General tips

  • To get the details about a barrier or watershed within the map, click on one or both of the identification options (Watershed or Barrier) at the bottom of the menu on the right of the map. Then click on the area of the map you want to identify.
  • When searching for barriers in an area, or generating an area profile, one of the area types you can choose from is "watershed" If you select this as an area type, clicking on the map will populate the form field.
  • There are two ways to model the removal of a barrier.
    1. Identify a Barrier by enabling identification, and click the "Model Removal" button of the found barrier.
    2. Perform a search for barriers, then select barriers to model from the results page.
  • Modeling more than one barrier at a time requires searching for barriers by single watershed.

The Fish Passage Decision Support System is an assemblage of data, showing an inventory of potential barriers to fish passage.

Fish passage is a critical factor in maintaining the health of species and biodiversity to a geographical area.

By providing a central source of information, you can analyze an area, viewing species in that area, and plan a project by calculating stream miles opened up by implementing a fish passage solution.
