From the BLM 2011 annual report: "Seed bank quantification and dynamics studies of 67 San Benito evening primrose suboccurrences" BLM 2014 Annual Report: Study initiated in Aug 2013 to indirectly measure age of soil seed bank using old shrubs and underlying litter depth. Modeled results indicated a maximum seed viability of 120 years, among longest measured for an annual plant in the literature. Seed production was conducted at BLM Hollister field office in 2014, but seed production beds were then terminated and removed due to the field office being relocated to Marina. In addition, BLM has conduceted a seedling survival study, seedling predator study, plant competition study, an pollination mode and genetic diversity study.

Ryan O'Dell (BLM botanist) has and is investigating ways to gain access; however, the purpose now is not to find threats, but finding new populations, as a new type of habitat that supports the species has been discovered. ----------- BLM 2014 annual report: Surveyed 40 ha on BLM land. 31 new C. benitensis suboccurrences found, 12 of which are successful introductions, with plant counts made for each. A total of 19,297 plants counted for 289 suboccurrences in the 2014 season which was also a severe drought year.
