THE MIGRATORY CORRIDOR WAS FOUND TO OCCUR IN NEARSHORE WATERS (20 METERS MEAN WATER DEPTH AND 26 KM MEAN DISTANCE FROM COAST) OF THE GOM (SHAVER ET AL. 2016, BIOL. CONSERV. 194 AND 195). THE INTER-NESTING HABITAT WAS FOUND TO OCCUR IN A NARROW BAND OF NEARSHORE WATERS (14-19 METERS MEAN WATER DEPTH AND 6-11 KM MEAN DISTANCE FROM SHORE) OF THE WESTERN GOM (SHAVER ET AL. 2017, PLOS ONE 12). Results included a prediction that northern beaches will proximally support the production of mixed sex rations. However, a natural shift to north could not occur rapidly enough to compensate for climate change. Kemp's ridleys have a limited thermal profile within a very restricted nesting range; therefore are particularly vulnerable to climate change. Bevan et al. in press as of 2019. The increase of social media, has led to more opportunities for in person outreach activities e.g. school programs. In 2018, with Early Restoration funds, GPZ will Integrate an interactive education and awareness component to the conservation efforts being undertaken at Playa Miramar in Ciudad Madero. Playa Miramar is one of the main tourist destinations in Tamaulipas, receiving many visitors from Tampico and Altamira, as well as from all over the state including rural communities such as Rancho Nuevo, Barra del Tordo, and Tepehuajes, and other states in Mexico. According to the Tourism Department of the State Government of Tamaulipas, Playa Miramar represents 60% of the tourist influx in Tamaulipas, and is considered the main tourist destination in the State. GPZ will establish a sea turtle conservation biological station/visitor center at Playa Miramar that will consolidate marine ecology and endangered species educational components of agencies and institutions that are part of the Tamaulipas’ environmental education network. The Municipalities of Altamira, Tampico and Ciudad Madero in particular, could become a potential partners inasmuch as they would provide transportation for the school groups of the metropolitan area comprised of these three cities.
